So I got my new craptop from eBay and it's pretty damned good. It's another instance where Claude helped me out. I gave Claude my requirements and it delivered a make and model that fulfilled those requirements: two slots for DDR4 ram, stylus support, Windows 11 capable, and 13.3". And the result? A Dell 5310 2-in-1. So I go on eBay and find one for $110 that is being sold by someone on the South Side. Took two days to arrive and then the set up process began.
And, for $110, it was a lot better than I could have hoped for. There were a couple of issues with paint peeling but there were no missing bits. I peeled off the sticker and some paint came off with it. Not an issue, I figured, since I intended to cover the lid with even more stickers.
The first test was whether it would fit into my bag of lesser holding, and it did just fine. So that's options. The main bag for this laptop is going to be my quirks backpack, but it's nice to have options.
Opening it up, it was a friendly serviceable machine. I slotted in my ram (32GB (2x16)) and a 1TB drive. Realistically, those components on their own are currently worth more than the computer itself. I also ordered an AC adapter and styulus so that's another $40 investment, but it still isn't as much as I would have paid for just a 1TB drive. It handles single tasks pretty well at a reasonable speed but isn't a prize multitasker.
It's better than I expected, and as good as I needed.
